2023 School and Nonprofit Websites
2023 was a fun and exciting year for Design TLC! Our team produced some amazing new websites for wonderful organizations while maintaining support for over 70 websites. We branched out with advanced development of WordPress integrations with Salesforce for The League of American Bicyclists and with Blackbaud for The Renbrook School. As a small agency, we don’t take too many projects at a time, allowing us to give focused attention to each client during their website redesign through launch. We launched 9 websites in 2023, with a few in the process to launch in early 2024.
Here’s a recap of our 2023 websites:
Casa de Montessori
In February, we had the pleasure of working on our first Montessori school website. We loved working with this family-run school. We helped the school by adding a scheduling tool to their website, which they say was life-changing, and resulted in many more inquiries for school visits.
Aspire Afterschool Program
In March we launched a new website for the nonprofit Aspire Afterschool Learning program in Arlington, Virginia. We did part of this project as a Pro Bono offering, as we love supporting educational nonprofits, and Aspire is making a difference for historically underserved students. We loved working with their bright colors and gradients and integrated their website seamlessly with their Bloomerang/Kindful donation platform.
League of American Bicyclists
Also in March, the League of American Bicyclists launched a brand new, much improved and very large website. We migrated their website from Drupal, with hundreds of blog posts and images, and we created an impressive integration with the Google Maps API and the League’s Salesforce database, which lists hundreds of bicycling resources by zip code, city and state. It’s an impressive development project, combined with a user-friendly and fun design (check out the bicycle that rides across the screen on the Home Page!). The website is also easy to manage on the backend with saved modules and templates that make it easy for the client to edit and update their website themselves. Developer Tom Ransom did fantastic work connecting this website to the League’s database and working with our high standards for design to make a map and resources page that is beautiful on all devices.
We look forward to helping the League with their separate data and report website in 2024.
Friends Meeting School
April saw the launch of the Friends Meeting School website. We were honored to help this school upgrade their website design and interface, migrating them from Squarespace to WordPress. We bonded with the kind leadership team at this Quaker school, whose mission and vision aligns with the things Design TLC stands for.
The Calculus Project: TLC from the Heart 2023 Pro Bono Project
In June we launched our 2023 Pro Bono project for The Calculus Project. Every year, we select one nonprofit organization to receive a full website redesign, with or without branding. We proposed some new logos for the Calculus Project, but they have a trademark on their existing logo, so opted not to change it. We worked with their colors to make a fresh, bright design that clearly communicates their mission and message.
The Manor Montessori School
Summer can be a good time for a school to relaunch their website. The team at The Manor Montessori School devoted some of their summer to working with us. to complete their new website. Their old site was not mobile responsive, information was hard to find, and it was hard to update. We moved their website to WordPress and adding a scheduling tool, while integrating with their application management system.
The Renbrook School
Another school that worked hard over the summer to wrap up their new website for launch was the Renbrook School. This was a substantial project, as we worked with them to connect their new WordPress website with Blackbaud, to display their staff and faculty, athletics information and school calendar from their Blackbaud database on their new website. This works seamlessly, and saves them a lot of money in ongoing maintenance, as well as allowing them to have more control over their website design and functionality. Again, our amazing developer Tom created custom code to allow this integration to not only work well, but look beautiful on this modern, clean and user-friendly website.
The Renbrook School is so happy with their new website and loves to sing our praises, which makes us grateful and proud of this collaboration.
St. John Vianney School
Soon after the school year started, and after their new faculty photos were taken, we launched a new website for St. John Vianney School – a small Catholic school in Fairmont, Minnesota. We enjoyed working with photos of happy kids at this warm and nurturing school to create an updated, happy and informative new website.
The Foundation Schools
Right after Thanksgiving, we launched a new website for the Foundation Schools, four school locations in Maryland for students with emotional disabilities and social, emotional and learning challenges. This school makes a difference in the lives of students who really need extra support. We create a bright, user-friendly school website for them that showcases each location and their unique programming.https://www.foundationschools.org/
CASA At Sheridan School Summer Camp Website
Just launched! In time for the end of the year and the upcoming summer camp season, we helped the Sheridan School improve their summer camp website. CASA is a creative arts summer camp in Washington, DC. We used some of their fun photos and reworked their messaging and sitemap to better communicate their programs and classes, as well as adding some custom meta descriptions to help their SEO. What a fun way to end a great year!
Thank you!
We are grateful for the trust our clients put in us to help them create a new and improved website for their school or nonprofit. We love what we do and are grateful to be able to make a living helping these organizations make the world a better place by providing nurturing learning opportunities for young minds!
