For over 25 years, the school has been helping students grow in meaningful ways. We love the school’s focus on having a positive impact on the world, which is also our mission at Design TLC.
The former school website was built with Squarespace, which offered limited editing options and was hard to customize. The navigation was hard to find and use, and the home page was very long and did not present information in a clear way.
New Sitemap and Homepage Wireframe
As we do with all of our school website refresh projects, we took an inventory of the former website, and worked with the team at Friends Meeting School (FMS) to develop an updated sitemap which included some pages that we know are important for school websites, as well as top content from their Google Analytics data.
We also created a home page wireframe to identify a plan for the homepage content before coming up with design prototype options.
New Homepage
The new home page features the benefits or Quaker education, which sets Friends Meeting School apart. We created a clear call to action that links to their Renweb application management software. We maintained the school’s existing branding, with a dark green and gold color palette and a logo block placed in the left side of the header. We chose a font combination of a serif and sans-serif, complementing the logo while adding a clean, professional look to the design.
The use of parallax is a creative way to present a nice photograph of the campus behind the school programs. The Instagram feed provides a way to display fresh content and nice photos without needing to frequently update the website.
Special Content Types for Staff and Job Opportunties
We often creat custom post types on school websites for staff and job openings, making it easy for the school website administrators to add and update this content without worrying about formatting or design. This content will automatically feed into pages to display the information in a template we created.
