2024 School and Nonprofit Websites: A Year in Review
We always enjoy looking back on Design TLC’s school and nonprofit websites from the past year, and 2024 is no exception. With the launch of 4 new school websites (plus a microsite) and 2 non-profit websites, our dedicated team is proud of the variety of beautiful and functional websites which fulfilled the needs and desires of our clients. As a small agency, we are grateful that we can dedicate our efforts to providing personal care and attention to each client throughout their entire design process. One of our main focuses this year was accessibility, and we worked with our new and support clients to help ensure that their websites are accessible to all users, regardless of physical or cognitive abilities.
In 2025 we are looking forward to launching our Pro Bono project The Clothesline, a brand new website for long-time client CommuniKids, as well as new sites for St. Luke’s Episcopal School, The River School, and Safe Routes Partnership. We are grateful to continue our mission into the new year!
Here’s a recap of our 2024 projects:
Bennett Day School
The new website for Bennett Day School in Chicago was a comprehensive project that aimed to consolidate their two separate websites—one for their Early Education Program and Lower School, and the other for their Upper School—into a single, cohesive online presence.
We enjoyed working with the client team, who brought a great design sense as well as technical savvy to help move the project along and in the direction they wanted it to go!
Bike League Data Website
The League of American Bicyclists brought us back to help them relaunch their data website. They needed to overhaul the structure of the site on both the front and back end of the website. We were tasked with organizing and simplifying the presentation of a lot of data about bicycling in the United States. The former site was hard to navigate and had a lot of content as pages to present a report that was out of date.
The new website loads faster, is easier to navigate and includes a user-friendly filter for the data content.
Winsor Leads: Capital Campaign Website
Winsor School, renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and empowering young women, embarked on a transformative journey with their capital campaign, Winsor Leads. To support this endeavor, our team was tasked with designing and building a website that not only reflected Winsor’s character but also showcased the dedicated leaders behind the campaign. By seamlessly blending elegant aesthetics with functional excellence, we helped Winsor School propel its capital campaign forward.
ASSIST Scholars
In the realm of education and scholarship, accessibility and global reach are paramount. With the evolving landscape of digital platforms, it’s imperative for organizations like ASSIST Scholars to adapt and ensure inclusivity while expanding their reach across borders. That’s precisely what we achieved with the recent overhaul of the ASSIST Scholars website.
Moving away from a proprietary platform to WordPress marked a significant leap forward in enhancing the website’s functionality and accessibility. The transition empowered us to implement innovative features tailored to accommodate diverse users and cater to an international audience effectively.
One of the primary focuses of the overhaul was to ensure seamless navigation and comprehension for users worldwide. With the implementation of customized translations, visitors can now access content in their preferred language, fostering a more inclusive browsing experience. This feature not only enhances accessibility but also demonstrates ASSIST Scholars’ commitment to embracing diversity on a global scale.
American Voices
The redesigned American Voices website has significantly improved communication, functionality, and user experience. It effectively conveys the organization's mission and impact with engaging visuals and clear messaging, attracting more visitors and supporters. The enhanced interactive map allows seamless exploration of global programs with real-time updates. Streamlined content management enables the team to maintain fresh, accurate, and professional content effortlessly. Both the team and visitors have expressed positive feedback, highlighting the site's ease of use and appealing design.
Concord Hill
Concord Hill School partnered with Design TLC to develop a new website that would better represent their values, enhance their online presence, and provide more control and flexibility at a much more affordable budget. The new website, built with WordPress, replaced the school’s outdated Finalsite website, offering a refreshed and modern digital experience.
The previous website did not reflect the school’s updated branding and mission, leaving a perception of being outdated and old-fashioned. The client expressed concerns about confusing section headings, the need for a more visually appealing design, and the lack of functional features such as an updated school calendar and better photography. The goal was to create a site that was not only easy to navigate but also engaging and representative of the school’s unique offerings and community spirit.
The Winsor School
The Winsor School, a prestigious all-girls institution in Boston, partnered with us to create a new website that reflects its personality, quality, and reputation. This ambitious project, undertaken in collaboration with the talented team at E&A Co, included a microsite for the school’s capital campaign and culminated in the launch of an award-winning main website. Seamlessly integrating with Blackbaud’s systems for directories, athletics, and calendars, the site offers a modern, user-friendly experience while maintaining a high degree of customization. Our collaborative approach ensured that the final product met the school’s needs, reflecting its values and vision with elegance and impact.
