2022 School and Nonprofit Website Wrap Up – Our Year in Review

happy new year

It is hard to believe, but 2022 is coming to a close— happy holidays and happy New Year! What a whirlwind this year has been. While we can’t wait to see what next year holds, the holiday season gives an opportunity to look back and reflect on this past year and highlight some of our 2022 projects.

Outside of Design TLC, the world of website analytics experienced a big transition in 2022— this spring, the original software, Universal Analytics (UA) made the switch to GA4. This is no small change, as the new platform will work quite differently. This means it cannot be changed with a single update button, GA4 requires its own implementation. The original software will no longer work on July 1, 2023, so if you still haven’t made the switch to GA4 yet, there’s no time like the present! July may seem far away, but we recommend you take action as soon as you can. To work effectively, you need historical data to make year-on-year data comparisons.

If you don’t want to wait, what can you do now? If you haven’t done so already, go ahead and create a GA4 property and install it on your website. Next, install the tracking code by adding it to your site using the Google Tag Manager. If you need help getting the new GA4 up and running, let us know! We offer a service to set up and connect our client’s websites to GA4.

New Websites!

This year kept us busy with exciting new projects for our clients! We have had the honor to work with a number of wonderful organizations this past year, and have helped existing clients maintain and enhance their websites with new content and features. Following are a sampling of projects that we launched in 2022.

School Website Design & Development

Washington Waldorf School

This year, we helped the Washington Waldorf School with their website redesign. The Washington Waldorf School is one of more than 1,000 Waldorf schools worldwide and strives to develop the whole human being in a healthy and nurturing environment. Waldorf Schools across the world are known for their artistic teachers, who often create intricate drawings on their chalkboards, and we wanted to encapsulate that trait in the new website! We transitioned their current website to a WordPress website, designed the site to be easily updated, optimized it to perform at its highest capability, and more! West Sound Academy

This year, we also had the great pleasure of working with the West Sound Academy, a small independent college preparatory school located on a wooded, twenty-acre campus overlooking Liberty Bay in Poulsbo, Washington. West Sound Academy serves students in grades six through twelve, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in the junior and senior years.

West Sound Academy

We stepped in to help West Sound Academy work out some bugs they were experiencing with their current site. After completing a full site audit, we were able to help reframe the homepage messaging, create SubPage layouts to improve site navigation, and completed a number of technical improvements to smooth out the overall function of the site. Nonprofit Website Design & Development

Britepaths

Britepaths

In addition to serving schools, this year we were able to work with several nonprofits making great impacts in their communities. One of the nonprofits we worked with includes Britepaths. For 38 years, Britepaths has been providing help and hope to Northern Virginia residents who are working hard, but struggling to thrive in this expensive region. Similar to a business, Britepaths provides social impact services to improve the wellbeing of the community. Their unique programs equip working individuals and families with the tools they need to withstand a crisis situation and begin a journey toward lasting independence. We built Britepaths a new website platform on WordPress with a design that highlights the nonprofit’s mission and increased the site’s ease of use on the backend. Bridges To Independence

Bridges to Independence

Bridges to Independence is another nonprofit we were able to serve this year. We helped them launch a new and improved website. Their former site was out of date, and although built with WordPress, was very difficult to update and edit. It needed performance improvements, as well as better messaging to make it easier for website visitors to know what the organization does, and how to help. Check out our case study for the full project summary!

Pro Bono Project

On top of our regular workflow, each year TLC from the Heart provides pro bono website design and development services to a selected nonprofit. Each year, we select one educational nonprofit organization to receive our services for a full year, including a full website and branding refresh if desired. Our 2022 Pro Bono project was iThriveHer, a nonprofit that exposes underrepresented girls to STEAM subjects through hands-on workshops, training modules, field trips, leadership opportunities and mentoring relationships.
