Britepaths Nonprofit Website by Design TLC

For 38 years, Britepaths has been providing help and hope to Northern Virginia residents who are working hard, but struggling to thrive in this expensive region. Similar to a business, Britepaths provides social impact services to improve the wellbeing of the community. Their unique programs equip working individuals and families with the tools they need to withstand a crisis situation and begin a journey toward lasting independence.

We are so glad Britepaths is happy with their new website!

Objective

The former Britepaths website was built with Drupal, and integrated complex and robust CRM/Donor Management software called CiviCRM. Drupal was becoming harder to manage, and required an update which would have necessitated an entire rebuild, so the organization made the decision to move to WordPress, which is easier to use and offers more flexibility in functionality. CiviCRM also works with WordPress, but the process of migrating the forms and database from CiviCRM to WordPress was very labor-intensive and time-consuming.

  • Migrate from Drupal to WordPress: Transition the Britepaths website from Drupal to WordPress for easier management and greater flexibility.
  • Integrate CRM & Donor Management System: Ensure a seamless migration of CiviCRM forms and databases, despite the labor-intensive process.
  • Enhance Website Design & Content Organization: Develop a fresh, visually appealing website that clearly highlights Britepaths’ mission and services.
  • Improve Content Management: Implement Custom Post Types for client stories, volunteer opportunities, job postings, and events to simplify content updates.
  • Ensure Ease of Use: Provide comprehensive documentation to empower the Britepaths team in managing their website effectively.

Approach

  1. Website Migration & CRM Integration
    • Transitioned from Drupal to WordPress to improve usability and long-term scalability.
    • Migrated CiviCRM forms and databases, ensuring donor and client records remained intact.
    • Addressed technical challenges and ensured full functionality post-migration.
  2. Nonprofit-Focused Website Design
    • We created a fresh and bright design that featured the main focus of Britepaths: financial empowerment and assistance. We customized a photo and created a color palette that came from the existing logo.
    • The Home Page contains more information, presented with graphics and white space, to allow website visitors to scroll to learn more without being overwhelmed.
  3. Custom Content Management Features
    • Britepaths has some compelling stories from clients and volunteers. We created a section on the website where the Britepaths staff can easily add more stories, with consistent content for displaying these stories on the appropriate page of the site.
    • Similarly, we created custom sections for volunteer opportunities, staff and board content, job opportunities and events.Ensured staff could easily update and manage these sections without technical expertise.
  4. User Empowerment & Documentation
    • As we do with all our website projects, we add complete documentation for editing and updating all aspects of the website. This allows the client to have full control over their website content and process, while also having us on call for more advanced needs.

Outcome

  • Improved Website Management: The transition to WordPress makes the site easier to update, manage, and expand over time.
  • Seamless CRM Integration: Despite a complex migration process, CiviCRM was successfully transferred to WordPress without data loss.
  • Enhanced User Experience: A modern, visually appealing design now better communicates Britepaths’ mission and engages visitors with compelling content.
  • Streamlined Content Organization: The introduction of Custom Post Types simplifies how staff manage and display client stories, job listings, volunteer opportunities, and events.
  • Increased Autonomy for Staff: With clear documentation and a well-structured backend, Britepaths can confidently update and manage their website with minimal external assistance.
