We of Action

We of Action website
New website for We of Action Virginia

We of Action Virginia (WofA) is a grassroots movement that unites advocates to protect democracy, promote fair elections, and uphold civil rights. Founded in 2016, WofA is committed to empowering voters, fostering civic engagement, and creating a more just and inclusive future. With a mission that includes electing supportive representatives, promoting good citizenship, and improving voter participation, WofA needed a platform that could better facilitate its advocacy efforts and bring their message to a broader audience.

Objective

The organization had outgrown its previous platform on WordPress.com. The need for greater control, functionality, and scalability was critical to advancing its goals. They needed a new website that not only aligned with their existing branding but also provided a more flexible solution for future content expansion.

Approach

Design TLC, as part of the TLC from the Heart Pro Bono Program, worked closely with WofA to create a custom website that would meet their specific needs. We migrated WofA’s website from WordPress.com to WordPress.org to provide more control and flexibility over the site’s design and functionality.

Key Features of the New Website:

  • Brand Alignment: We created a fresh, modern design that reflected the organization’s branding while clearly communicating their core messages, ensuring the website resonated with their audience.

  • What’s Up WofA: A weekly email featuring important action items, “What’s Up WofA” is now easily accessible through the website. This feature is central to WofA’s advocacy efforts, providing members with key tasks they can take to create positive change.

  • Google Group Integration: We implemented an automation that allows visitors to easily sign up and be added to the WofA Google Group, which distributes the weekly “What’s Up WofA” email. This automation ensures that members stay informed and engaged without extra manual work for the organization.

  • Scalability for Content: The website was designed with scalability in mind, allowing WofA to continuously expand its content library to cover new issues and action items over time.

  • Analytics and Performance: We connected the site to Google Analytics to track performance and optimize future content. Additionally, we performed an accessibility scan to ensure the website is user-friendly for all visitors, achieving an A Grade in accessibility. We also tested and optimized site speed, achieving an A Grade for performance.

  • Fast Turnaround: Given the urgency of WofA’s mission and the importance of a quick launch, Design TLC worked quickly and efficiently to launch the new website in just 3 weeks, at no cost to the organization.

Outcome

The new website has enabled WofA to better serve its community and fulfill its mission. The migration to WordPress.org has provided the organization with the flexibility and control they needed, while the streamlined design ensures visitors can easily access vital information and take action.

  • Improved Engagement: The automation for Google Group sign-ups has simplified the process for new subscribers, allowing WofA to continue building its community of engaged advocates.

  • Accessibility and Performance: The A Grade accessibility and speed performance guarantee that the website is accessible to a wide range of users, while ensuring fast load times and an optimal user experience.

  • Ongoing Content Expansion: With a foundation that supports future content, WofA is poised to add more valuable resources and updates on important advocacy issues as they arise.
